I got a new job. Yippie! I'm going to the be 3IC (3rd in charge) at Macpac's Petone store. Macpac is one of the NZ outdoors gear companies. It's considered one of the top two. The other one is Kathmandu, but they make really crappy stuff. This store is actually next door to Kathmandu, which is kinda funny. I'll be getting paid $15/hour, which is up from the $13/hour I'm getting at Dwights. It's just enough for Colin and I to think about getting our own apartment in a month or two, so I'm really excited. I just feel really sad about turning in 2 weeks notice to my boss exactly 1 week after I started there. He's really nice. He was scared to hire me at first because he thought I might run off to be a scientist. Instead, I'm running off to a better store with better pay. I don't like selling Marmot ski jackets to brain dead people in the mall. One guy came in today asking about compression sacks and I just about threw a party. Really. I was throwing compression sacks all over the place.
I can't wait to start my new job. The assistant manager is from the San Fernando Valley and one of the part-timers is from Redlands.
Still need a car. May go look at a car lot tomorrow morning.
Modern dance does not exist in New Zealand. I am going to have a melt down. I tried to find modern dance classes. In NZ, modern dance is any type of dance other than ballet and jazz, not people in all black with crazy technique breaking all the rules of ballet -- it's stinking hip hop. Now I'm going to have to take ballet and be angry. Or maybe I'll finally try jazz. I did buy jazz shoes before I left California, just in case. I miss dance classes in Davis. Terribly.
